Family Support

Wainscott school works hard to offer advice, support and direct interventions to families at the earliest point of identified need. We focus efforts and resources to engage parents in supporting their child’s learning beyond the school gates.

Wainscott provide support, advice and information to the families within our school community.  We can help you with any worries that you may have in relation to your child's education, behaviour and wellbeing.  We are also here as someone to talk to if you need it!

Advice and support is confidential although concerns relating to the safeguarding of children will always be dealt with in accordance with the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Support for pupils includes:

  • promoting good attendance and punctuality
  • promoting self-esteem and confidence
  • promoting positive behaviour and positive attitudes to learning
  • providing one-to-one support
  •

Support for families includes:

  • providing information and signposting to other services in the local area
  • liasing with a range of external services such as housing and Social Care
  • assistance in completing paperwork and forms e.g. housing, special educational needs, school places and benefits
  • attendance and support at school and other agency meetings
  • advice and support in promoting positive behaviour at home

Young Carers

What is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who provides unpaid care for a family member (including siblings) or friend who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition or a misuse of drug and alcohol.  Many people with practical responsibilities do not see themselves as young carers. Early identification can lead to earlier support being put in place.

Did you know that 1 in 5 school children are a young carer.

Carers First is a charity that supports these young carers. They can provide emotional support, activities and days out for the young carer. This will enable children to have time away to relax and have some fun together.

Click on the link below to register your child as a young carer. Equally, as the Family Wellbeing Lead, I can support you through this process by completing it with you.

Wainscott's Food Pantry

We know that times are tough at the moment and there are many growing pressures on our families. One of things we are incredibly proud of at Wainscott Primary School is our continued sense of community to support our vulnerable families by providing them with things they need. Many of you will know that we provide hampers to our most vulnerable every half term. We have looked to expand this by doing our own school community food bank where we can work in collaboration with staff, parents and local businesses/ charities within our local area to provide food and every day necessities on a regular basis. This will be an on-going support that all our families will have access to. We are incredibly proud of this project and look forward to supporting many families.

We are continually looking and appreciative of any donations for the food bank so please bring any donations into the school office.
